Main Development Site

Heras fencing has been erected on the Sizewell estate around the area north of Kenton Hills car park. Currently, ecology surveys and vegetation clearance are underway within the fenced area and therefore public access is restricted.

In 2023 the site team commenced vegetation clearance to the North of the Kenton Hills Car Park to create a temporary access road to the Sizewell C site. The creation of this temporary access road has enabled the project to remove traffic from Bridleway 19 and improve conditions for visitors.

To continue the work on the temporary access route part of the permissive walk through Sandlings Walk is closed, restricting access to and from the beach along this route. 

Please note that the Sandlings path on the east side, closest to the footbridge near the beach, will also be closed. This area of closure is essential to public safety during the clearance of vegetation and UXOs.

We appreciate that Sandlings is a popular walk and the decision to close this area is considered essential to ensure the safety of the public and site teams, while enabling Sizewell C to focus on improvements to the condition of the path ahead of the winter.

Alternatives to Sandlings Walk:

There are two alternatives to Sandlings Walk to join the coast:

• • • The Suffolk Coast Path running from the south to the north of the beach (pink diamonds to the right of the map) and across from the Sluice footpath towards the west and Eastbridge
    • Bridleway 19 (purple dotted line) is accessible from the Sizewell Beach car park and runs to the west of this map

All necessary work will be conducted under supervision of an Ecological Clerk of Works, including surveys for nesting birds, bats and badgers, which will be carried out in accordance with protected species licence conditions where they apply.

When items of explosive ordnance (UXOs) are found, an exclusion zone is initiated and they are destroyed in a controlled explosion by qualified personnel. These exclusion zones may mean that we will need to close permissive paths for public safety. We endeavour to reopen these as swiftly as possible, but please be advised that your route may be redirected or take longer than usual while UXOs are removed. Some traffic management is required on Lover’s Lane, but there will be no full road closures or diversions – only a single lane closure and two-way traffic lights to the west of the entrance to Bridleway 19. Traffic lights will only be used when vehicles need to leave site, and will remain green when not in use.
